Rain continues through week as temps begin to fall
An approaching cold front will push a wedge of cooler air from the north into North Carolina, and by week's end, high temperatures - in the unseasonably warm 70s over the past week - will drop closer to normal.

RALEIGH, N.C. — An approaching cold front will push a wedge of cooler air from the north into North Carolina, and by week's end, high temperatures – in the unseasonably warm 70s over the past week – will drop closer to normal.
Temperatures will climb into the high 60s by noon Tuesday and into the 70s in the afternoon as warmer southern air moves north through the Triangle area, said WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.
"We'll see more cloud cover than sunshine today, but mid to late afternoon we'll have a better chance of at least seeing a little bit of blue shining through," Gardner said. The chance of rain will decrease after lunchtime, but the chance of a surprise shower will remain throughout the day.
Gardner said the region can expect falling temperatures and up to one inch of rain on Wednesday as the weekend approaches.
There is rain in the forecast through Thursday, too, though none of those days will be a total washout. Thursday will start out cloudy and wet, with rain likely, especially morning to midday.
The outlook for New Year’s Eve looks promising for outdoor First Night festivities.Temperatures will drop as the cold front pushes through the eastern half of North Carolina but will remain in the 50s.
