Cold, arctic air on the way to Triangle
A blast of arctic air that could push temperatures down to the 20s around the Triangle will arrive by midweek.
Posted — UpdatedThe frigid blanket, which is moving into the United States from Canada, already wrapped around the northernmost part of the country on Sunday night, causing a dramatic drop in the mercury.
"We will have lots of sun Monday for Veteran's Day with temps in the 60s, but by midday Tuesday we will see temperatures begin to fall," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.
Tuesday's highs – in the mid 50s – will occur around lunchtime before temperatures begin to plummet.
"The models suggest that we have a chance for light rain Tuesday afternoon and evening. We may even see snow flurries Tuesday," Wilmoth said.
There will be plenty of sunshine Wednesday, but it will stay cooler with highs in the mid 40s.
“Wednesday night is when that front gets here,” Wilmoth said. “Wednesday night into Thursday morning, that’s when we’re going to feel it. We will start the day Thursday with temps in the 20s.”
Milder temperatures will creep back into the region, starting on Friday. By Saturday, the high will break the 60-degree mark.
