Cold air headed toward NC behind front; windy day ahead
Another shot of arctic air will rush into central and eastern North Carolina Thursday afternoon after a cold front pushes through the area, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Temperatures dipped into the upper 30s during the afternoon and could hit the freezing mark by the evening commute.
"It's going to be cold and very breezy during the afternoon as cold air rushes in," Gardner said. "Wind chills will be in the 30s for the bulk of the day, and winds could gust from 25 to 30 mph."
Overnight temperatures will settle in the low 20s early Friday before returning to the mid-40s during a bright and sunny afternoon.
"We'll be cold to close the week, but we've got another warm stretch ahead for the weekend," Gardner said. "We'll be in the 50s on Saturday and then into the low 60s on Sunday. It's going to be gorgeous."
After a cloudy and possibly rainy Monday, cold temperatures will return to the area by the middle of next week.
