Coast Guard suspends search for man missing near Oregon Inlet

The Coast Guard suspended its search Monday for a man who went missing near Bonner Bridge in the Oregon Inlet Saturday evening.

AVON, N.C. — The Coast Guard suspended its search Monday for a man who went missing near Bonner Bridge in the Oregon Inlet Saturday evening.

Kristopher Mueller of Avon was last seen before 5:30 p.m. Saturday and was known to be fishing in the vicinity of Bonner Bridge. On Sunday, Coast Guard personnel located his kayak with fish, a life jacket, and a cell phone on board. The National Park Service also located his vehicle nearby.

The Coast Guard crews searched for Mueller for 60 hours and covered 1,600 square miles before suspending the search.
