CNN anchor to deliver NCCU commencement address

Fredricka Whitfield, a news anchor and correspondent for CNN, will deliver the commencement address at North Carolina Central University, officials said Thursday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Fredricka Whitfield, a news anchor and correspondent for CNN, will deliver the commencement address at North Carolina Central University, officials said Thursday.

The graduation ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. May 11 in O’Kelly–Riddick Stadium.

Based at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, Whitfield anchors the weekend edition of CNN Newsroom. She also works as a correspondent for the network, reporting on breaking news events worldwide.

Previously, Whitfield served as an Atlanta-based correspondent for NBC News and at local stations in Miami, Washington, D.C., Dallas and Charleston, S.C.

She has received multiple awards and honors from Sigma Delta Chi, The Society of Professional Journalists, and The Associated Press, a 2005 Peabody Award for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina and a 2007 Emmy Award.
