CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton officials say the town's Fourth of July event will resume this year after being canceled last year due to the recession.

Mayor Jody McLeod said revenue streams are strong this year, so the town council thought it was appropriate to bring back the event, which features fireworks in Municipal Park.

The town will pay for the event with $20,000 that had been set aside for a parks and recreation study. Sponsorships for the event will also help offset the cost.
