Clayton police officer stabbed breaking up fight in Benson
A Johnston County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said Saturday that a Clayton police officer was stabbed while breaking up a fight in Benson Friday night.

Spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said the fight happened outside a bar called The Tar Pit, at South Wall Street and West Parrish Drive, around 10:30 p.m. The officer was between two people when one pulled out a knife, striking the officer.
The officer's bulletproof vest blocked most of the blow, but the officer was cut in the chest and arm, Amaon said. The officer was treated at Johnston Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Clayton Police Chief Glen B. Allen said that the officer's injuries were minor and that he was providing security for Benson's popular annual Mule Days festival.
Christopher Blake Moore, 26, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Previously, Moore was charged in the June 19, 2005, shooting death of 18-year-old Julius Anthony Lee at the Days Inn on Honeycutt Street.
Moore was originally charged with murder, but was convicted of manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a felon in 2006, according to state Department of Correction records. He served a little more than 2½ years in prison and was released in April 2009.
As well, Moore has two felony and one misdemeanor drug convictions dating from 2005 and 2002.
