Civil rights march planned Saturday to Legislative Building

The sixth annual Historic Thousands on Jones Street people’s assembly march is Saturday morning in downtown Raleigh. 

People will begin gathering at 9:30 a.m. on South Street at Shaw University. Demonstrators start marching at 10:30 a.m. to Jones Street outside the state Legislative Building for a rally. Trams will be available for those who cannot walk to the legislative building.

The march, organized by the state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) , seeks “justice and equality.” Issues the group wants addressed are voting rights, equitable education, health care, affordable housing and environmental justice. 

Parking is available for free in city lots on Wilmington Street between Cabarrus and Morgan streets.

An exact list of street closures was not available, but drivers in the area should expect delays Saturday morning.
