Chill, sun come to N.C.
Any leftovers from Saturday's rainfall – frozen water on roadways – melted quickly amid sunshine and rising temperatures early Sunday. The mercury won't be rising too far, though, and a mid-week storm system could give North Carolina another soaking.
Posted — UpdatedAny leftovers from Saturday's rainfall – frozen water on roadways – melted quickly amid sunshine and rising temperatures early Sunday.
But the mercury won't be rising too far from sub-freezing overnight lows, said WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson.
"It's definitely chilly. If you want to step outside, it's rather invigorating," he said.
Sunday will see a high around 48 degrees, about 8 degrees below normal. Only a few high clouds will disrupt the sunshine.
"Enjoy the sunshine while we've got it, because in this active weather pattern, it ain't going to be sticking around long," Johnson said.
The lows will drop to around freezing again overnight, so the work week could start with a covering of frost.
Monday will also see increased cloud cover and a small shot at a rain shower.
"I'm not really excited about the rain chances," Johnson said. "Have an umbrella handy just in case. That's all you need to do."
A better shot at rain, though, comes with a storm system expected to roll in Tuesday night. The rain will continue to fall throughout Wednesday.
"It's going to be a real soaker," Johnson said.
A new system bringing drier weather will arrive in time for the end of the work week.
