Kids and parents participate in the Big Muddy Challenge in September 2013

During my weekly Wednesday chat about all things family friendly on the WRAL morning news on Fox 50, I'll be talking about two big parent-child events coming up.

WakeMed and the YMCA of the Triangle are teaming up to host the Families On! Challenge from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 25, at WakeMed Soccer Park. The 2.2-mile race course with what are described as 14 "outrageously awesome challenges" is designed for families to work through together. The race is designed for all fitness levels. The fee is $29 per person for early registration and $39 per person on race day. Fun Packs for groups of four or more are $19 per person.
And the Big Muddy Challenge, which started right here in Raleigh and has been a favorite around here for the last couple of years, is May 2 at Hill Ridge Farms in Youngsville. The course, which is about two to 2.5 miles, includes physical and mental challenges for kids and their adults to complete together. Fees are between $28 and $40, depending on the participants age and whether they're part of a group.

The segment is on between about 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., Wednesday.
