PITTSBORO, N.C. — The Chatham County Board of Education on Monday named Robert Logan as its new schools superintendent.
Logan, who will begin work on May 15, has served as associate superintendent of innovation and school transformation with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction since last July. He was superintendent of Asheville City Schools from 2001 until last year, and he also was superintendent of Lee County Schools for four years.

“We are very excited about having Robert lead our district," school board Chairwoman Kathie Russell said in a statement. "His leadership and vision will help us shape Chatham County Schools into excellent centers of learning and will help our students succeed in the face of the rapidly changing forces and demographics in our county."

Logan earned a bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University and a master's degree in school leadership and an educational specialist degree in educational administration from East Carolina University.
