Chatham deputies charge man in rape of disabled woman

A Midland man is accused of raping a 19-year-old disabled woman, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Midland man is accused of raping a 19-year-old disabled woman, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Michael William Hess, 52, of 1050 Alvin Hough Road, was charged with felony second-degree rape, three counts of felony second-degree sex offense and a misdemeanor count of sexual battery.

He was in the Chatham County jail Friday under a $300,000 secured bond and has a court appearance scheduled for July 7.

Investigators said the woman, who has both physical and mental disabilities, was assaulted over the course of a year.
