Charges Upgraded After Woman Injured in Wreck Dies

A Smithfield man was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle after a woman died from injuries suffered in an Aug. 9 wreck, police said.

CLAYTON, N.C. — A Smithfield man was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle after a woman died from injuries suffered in an Aug. 9 wreck, police said.

Irene Humphrey Jarman, 76, of Clayton, was critically injured when she was thrown from her Ford Escort during a collision with a GMC truck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and Town Centre Boulevard in Clayton, police said. She died Tuesday at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Christopher Ryan Perry, 21, of 844 Woods Road in Smithfield, was initially charged with running a red light in the case. Police added the misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charge Wednesday.
