ROXBORO, N.C. — A day after police charged a Roxboro man with involuntary manslaughter in connection with a Monday slaying, authorities dismissed the charge.

Officers found Johnnie Bostic, 50, of 159 Cleveland Lane, dead in a field near the intersection of South Lamar Street and Madison Boulevard, police said. No information about a cause of death was released.

A canvass of the area led officers to suspect Adrona M. Crawley Jr. in Bostic's death. Crawley, 34, of 711 Jones Lester Road, was arrested and placed in the Person County Detention Center.

On Tuesday, after the State Medical Examiner's Office provided authorities with the preliminary findings from Bostic's autopsy, the Roxboro County District Attorney's Office decided to drop the charge against Crawley.

The case remains under investigation.
