CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police responding to a routine call Friday morning spotted and nabbed a man wanted on a probation violation.

Police said that while talking to a person who had called for assistance, officers noticed Thokgamo Shadreck, 22, in a third-floor apartment at the Timberlyne Apartments.

Shadreck jumped from a third-floor window onto a second-floor balcony, then ran through an apartment, police said. Officers pursued him and started a search.

Police said a bystander reported seeing a suspicious person trying to use a phone at a nearby business. Officers surrounded the area and caught Shadreck after a brief foot chase.

Shadreck was charged with a probation violation, misdemeanor breaking and entering and three counts of delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer. He was placed in the Orange County jail under a $52,000 secured bond.

State Department of Correction records show that Shadreck was given a split sentence for 2009 convictions on three counts of larceny by employee and a drug offense. He served five months in jail, then went on probation.

He was also convicted in 2007 of interfering with emergency communications, a drug offense and two counts each of receiving stolen goods and wanton injury to personal property, according to DOC records.
