Chapel Hill city bus engulfed in flames
A Chapel Hill city bus burst into flames Tuesday morning near a busy downtown intersection, a dispatcher and witnesses said.
Posted — UpdatedCHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Chapel Hill city bus burst into flames Tuesday morning the near busy intersection of North Columbia and East Franklin streets, according to a fire department dispatcher and witnesses.
Chapel Hill Fire Department authorities said the fire, which was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., was under control within six minutes. The five passengers on board the bus got off safely and were uninjured, authorities said.
The cause of the fire was a mechanical failure, authorities said.
