Friday is Macaron Day in the Triangle

Lucettegrace owner and former Umstead pastry chef Daniel Benjamin has organized this local celebration that will raise money for Meals on Wheels.

RALEIGH, N.C. — On Macaron Day 2014, Daniel Benjamiin announced his plans to open downtown Raleigh bakery lucettegrace. A year later, he has reached out to chefs and bakers across the Triangle to bring Macaron Day to the area.

Friday's Macaron Day celebration is inspired by the annual Jour du Macaron in Paris and Macaron Day in New York City. Macarons, the French crispy meringue cookies, are often confused with macaroons, which are chewy coconut cookies.

On Friday (March 20), participating businesses will donate 25 percent of Macaron sales to local Meals on Wheels operations.

Here's a list of participating venues:

"Come help us celebrate macarons, the start of Spring, and to raise money for a great cause. Maybe next year we can expand throughout North Carolina," Benjamin said on the lucettegrace Facebook page.
