Ceiling collapses in Duke classroom
A ceiling in a Duke University classroom building collapsed Wednesday afternoon, but no one was injured, officials said.
Posted — UpdatedAn instructor and students were in the second-floor classroom in the West Duke Building on the school's East Campus shortly before the class but left the room when they heard sounds from the ceiling, the university said.
A facilities worker went to the classroom and heard cracking as he stepped through the door, the university said. He quickly stepped out of the way as the ceiling fell in.
The entire West Duke Building has been closed so structural engineers can determine if any other spots are vulnerable to collapse.
