WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Raleigh fire investigators said Friday that the cause of a fire that tore through seven homes in the  Highland Creek subdivision earlier this week is undetermined. Foul play is not suspected.

The fire first ignited in the grass in a lot at 2806 Armadale Lane and quickly spread through dry grass and landscape materials to the nearby homes, Capt. Tim Wilson of the Raleigh Fire Department said in a statement.

Gusty winds and the close proximity of the homes were also factors in the fire's rapid spread, authorities said.

The fire started at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. It completely destroyed three single-family homes, damaged four others and displaced 11 people. No one was injured.
