Capital Area Soccer League is offering a soccer program this fall for kids with special needs.

TOPSoccer is a U.S. Youth Soccer program that's designed for kids ages 8 to 18 with physical or mental disabilities. Athletes are placed on teams according to ability, not age. It's geared toward player development, not competition.

The season runs on Sundays for an hour from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1 at WRAL Soccer Park in north Raleigh. According to CASL's website, practice will include both skill development, scrimmages and fun. Trained coaches and buddies, often CASL players, siblings and volunteers, will help during the practices.

A parent, guardian or caretaker for each athlete must be present at every train. The cost is $35.

CASL's website has much more information, including registration details.

(Full disclosure: I have two soccer-loving kids who both play on CASL teams).
