Cary Towne Center prepares for new indoor playground

The 2,000-square-foot play area will open Saturday.

Posted Updated

I'll be on WRAL-TV's morning news on Fox 50 around 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, to chat about two indoor playgrounds set to open at local malls.

The first is the big new play area at Cary Towne Center, which is scheduled to open Saturday. The 2,000-square-foot indoor play area, designed for young children, is the largest for mall owner CBL & Associates Properties. The company owns more than 100 malls across the country, including Cary Towne Center, Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, Renaissance Center in Durham and Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.
By comparison, the play area at Triangle Town Center, the other mall playground undergoing upgrades, is about 900 square feet.

The playground at Cary Towne is still under construction. A large, circular bench will serve as a barrier around the music, art and dance-themed play area. It will feature 11 soft play pieces, including a ballet shoe slide; a keyboard tunnel and slide; and theater masks to climb on and under. There also will be cubbies for shoes and some play panels.

A grand opening is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. The playground sits next to Belk, Dave & Buster's and Gymboree. I'll have more about it on the news tomorrow morning and on Friday. It's sponsored by celito.net, a Raleigh-based internet service provider for businesses, which, by the end of the year, will bring wifi to the mall.

And Triangle Town Center's new playground, a complete overhaul of the play area there next to Sears, is scheduled to open on Sept. 6.
