CARY, N.C. — A pedestrian bridge linking two parks on either side of U.S. Highway 1/64 has opened, officials said Tuesday.

Cary and the state Department of Transportation split the $1.4 million cost for the bridge, which links the MacDonald Woods Park to the north of the highway with the Kids Together Park on the south side.

A trail between the parks that includes the bridge also connects to Hinshaw Greenway and the recently renovated Pirates Cove Greenway.

“The opening of the bridge brings a healthier alternative for traveling between Cary’s prominent recreational facilities,” Cary parks planner Paul Kuhn said in a statement. “We are continuing to work to further enhance the leisure experience as design work continues on the bridge.”
