Cary Installs Defibrillators Around Town

The defibrillators will be placed at Town Hall, the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, the Cary Public Library, the train depot and several area parks and community centers, officials said.

“Defibrillators can often mean the difference between life and death, and we’re proud to offer this easy-to-use tool to help save lives,” Cary Fire Chief Allan Cain said in a statement. “By having (defibrillators) at public facilities, residents can feel more comfortable, knowing that we are proactively committed to protecting their quality of life. We hope that other governments as well as private businesses will join us in deploying life-saving (defibrillators).”

Many of the devices, which cost $1,295 each, will be stored in wall-mounted cabinets in conspicuous locations, such as near customer service desks. Also, device locations will be marked by three-dimensional signs.

In the late 1990s, all of Cary’s fire engines were equipped with defibrillators.
