Cary bank robber sought

Police were searching Monday for the man who robbed the SunTrust Bank inside the Harris Teeter grocery store at 2741 N.C. Highway 55 last week.

CARY, N.C. — Police were searching Monday for the man who robbed the SunTrust Bank inside the Harris Teeter grocery store at 2741 N.C. Highway 55 last week.

A man approached a teller at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, displayed what turned out to be a plastic toy handgun and demanded money, police said. He fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The robber is described as a black male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches to 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, a blue knit hat, jeans and possibly a light blue shirt.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Lt. Steve Fonke of the Cary Police Department at 919-462-2002 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIM(E). Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest.
