Durham police closed a busy intersection early Friday after a car crashed into a pole supporting traffic lights.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police closed a busy intersection early Friday after a car crashed into a pole supporting traffic lights.
Officers responded to the intersection of East Pettigrew Street and Grant Street at about 1 a.m. Investigators say a car ran off the road and hit a wire supporting a utility pole. The driver of the vehicle left the scene following the wreck. No charges have been filed, but an investigation is ongoing.
Police said the intersection could be closed until noon. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
