CLAYTON, N.C. — Two people suffered minor injuries Monday morning when they were hit by a car that rammed into a Clayton gas station, authorities said.

Gustav Baporis, 77, was in a rented Chrysler 300 with his wife and told police that he hit the wrong pedal and drove the car into Sandhu's gas station, at 1225 Amelia Church Road.

One person was injured when the car went into the store, and a second was injured when Baporis backed the car out again, authorities said. The Baporises weren't hurt.

Baporis was charged with careless and reckless driving and failure to reduce speed to avoid collision with persons.
