A man who tried to flee from state troopers crashed his car Friday morning near the Durham-Orange county line, authorities said.

The state Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a vehicle northbound on Interstate 85 when it crashed into the back of a truck just after 11 a.m., troopers said.

The driver, who first attracted attention by driving 40 mph in the 65-mph zone, sped up when troopers approached and led them on a high-speed chase for about nine miles.

The unidentified man was taken to Duke University Hospital; he was the only person injured in the crash.

Lanes were closed briefly while the wreck was cleared.
