Car Catches Fire, Driver Faces DWI Charge
A driver faces drunken-driving charges after his vehicle rear-ended a car and caught on fire, state troopers said.
Posted — UpdatedA car traveling on Interstate 40 West hit another vehicle parked on the shoulder at mile marker 266 in Orange County around 11:30 p.m. The collision caused the car that had been moving to catch on fire, state Trooper Gene Johnson said.
The occupant of the vehicle on the shoulder was taken to UNC Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Johnson said.
The driver of the moving car was arrested and charged with DWI. Troopers did not release the man's name but said he was from Lexington.
The accident blocked two lanes of I-40 West for a short time.
