Capital Boulevard reopens after water main break

Crews were first called to the 2900 block of Capital Boulevard Wednesday afternoon after a break sent water bubbling into the street.

City of Raleigh officials said work on the pipe was completed late Thursday, and the lanes reopened at about 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Major delays were reported throughout the commute on Thursday as drivers tried to squeeze into one open lane of the road.

"Motorists approaching this work area should expect heavy traffic delays and are strongly advised to avoid this area if possible utilizing other routes," city officials said in a news release.

One alternate route to get downtown would be to turn right onto New Hope Church Road and then left onto Atlantic Avenue.
