CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp Lejeune Marine was killed in Afghanistan last week, the U.S. Department of Defense said Monday.

Lance Cpl. Lucas C. Scott, 20, of Peebles, Ohio, died Dec. 3 during combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Scott was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Further information about Scott was not released by the Defense Department, but WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported relatives saying that Scott had been seriously injured in an attack days before his death but refused to take a break from fighting.

He was expected to return home Jan. 17.
