Camp Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan

A Camp Lejeune Marine was killed on Sunday in Afghanistan, military officials said.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp Lejeune Marine was killed on Sunday in Afghanistan, military officials said.

Cpl. Nicholas D. Paradarodriguez, 29, of Stafford, Va., died while supporting combat operations in Helmand province. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.

Paradarodriguez joined the Marine Corps in January 2007 and was promoted to the rank of corporal in April of last year.

He deployed to Afghanistan from March to October 2008 and again in December 2009.

His awards include the Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal.

He is survived by his wife.
