Verizon 4G service coming to Triangle in July
Verizon Wireless is rolling out its "4G" wireless broadband service in the Triangle as of July 21, the company said Tuesday.

In addition to Raleigh and Durham, the coverage area includes Cary, Apex, Clayton, Morrisville, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Gorman, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Garner and Smithfield.
The new towers will expand the population coverage area of the network across the triangle by 40 percent, according to a company spokesperson.
Service will be launched that same day across the Triad.
Sprint and Clear already offer 4G services, and Time Warner Cable offers 4G data services using the Clear network.
AT&T is in the process of upgrading to 4G and is adding towers capable of delivering faster speeds singly, according to the company.
Verizon Wireless already offers the faster wireless service in Fayetteville, Wilmington and Charlotte.
Based on LTE, or Long Term Evolution, technology, the Verizon Wireless network promises users 10-times faster download and upload services than current 3G technology.
The other wireless providers utilize different technology.
A spokesperson for Verizon Wireless would not say how many customers the company has in the Triangle or how much is being invested in 4G expansion this year. The company spent $301 million on network upgrades across North Carolina in 2010.
Verizon Wireless already offers a dozen or so 4-G capable devices, including smartphones, tablet PCs, USB modems and portable WiFi hotspot devices.
