Raleigh firm wins $136M Lejeune construction contract
The Navy on Wednesday awarded a $136.3 million contract to the Raleigh office of The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. to design and construct facilities at Camp Lejeune.

The contract includes construction of quarters for unmarried enlisted personnel; administrative headquarters; operational, maintenance and mission support facilities; and 1,582 parking spaces for personal vehicles of Marines stationed at the Wallace Creek portion of the base.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command expects work to be completed by October 2012, and the contract contains an option that could increase its value to $145.1 million.
State officials said about 650 to 750 construction workers will be needed for the project, and Jacksonville-area businesses could hire another 200 to 300 people to supply construction materials and services.
Whiting-Turner, which has offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, previously won a $35.6 million contract to construct a hanger complex for the MV-22 Osprey aircraft squadrons at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville. It also has contracts to construct the Marine Special Operations Command complex at Camp Lejeune and a barracks complex at Fort Bragg.
Whiting-Turner has teamed with design partners Clark Nexsen Architecture and Engineering and URS Corp.
