Frontier Spinning Mills to Expand Operation in Sanford

RALEIGH, N.C. — Frontier Spinning Mills will invest $20 million over the next three years to expand one of its two mills in Sanford and will create 42 additional jobs.

The company will receive a $40,000 One North Carolina Fund grant through Gov. Mike Easley’s office.

Frontier will spend $20 million to expand the mill. The company employs 1,500 people in North Carolina. It makes cotton and cotton-blended yarns.

“Frontier Spinning Mills’ decision to expand its operations in North Carolina is a reflection of our determination to help our traditional industries thrive and compete in the global economy,” Easley said in a statement.

North Carolina’s textile industry has been hit hard by layoffs in recent years due to offshoring of jobs to less expensive operations.
