Video game conference is strictly business
Video game professionals got the opportunity to network and collaborate at the East Coast Game Conference, held Wednesday and Thursday at the Raleigh Convention Center. The conference is the largest of its kind on the East coast.
Posted — UpdatedGame development and design is a growing industry and the Triangle boasts 30 to 50 game studios, said John Austin, a conference organizer.
"The Triangle is one of the top places in the country for video game development," Austin said.
Ubisoft, a large video game company, just opened a customer support center in Morrisville. About 1,200 people work in the video game industry in the Triangle, and that number is projected to increase.
North Carolina State University graduate Josh Fairhurst is a lead designer and programmer at Mighty Rabbit Studios. He hopes the booming industry will bring his company even more success.
"You can go to school in gaming, get a job in gaming and get funding in gaming. It's one of the only areas where you can do that," Fairhurst said.
