<b>CHARLOTTE, N.C.</b> — Bluestar Silicones will open a facility in Mecklenburg County, creating 125 jobs in the next three years, officials said Friday.

The company plans to invest $19.8 million in the plant, which will occupy the site that formerly housed Virkler Chemical in Charlotte.

"This move is an important step in implementing an aggressive growth strategy to become a world leading supplier of silicones in the coming five years," J. Christopher York, president of Bluestar Silicones North America, said in a statement.

Based in China, Bluestar Silicones provides specialty silicone products to the automotive, paper and packaging, aerospace, personal care, health care, tire and rubber, textile coatings, mold making and energy industries.

The average salary for the Charlotte jobs will be $62,040 plus benefits. Mecklenburg County's average annual wage is $51,584.

The company has qualified for a $340,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to attract business projects to the state. Companies receive no money upfront and must meet job and investment targets to obtain the funds.
