Campbell program to manage Harnett golf course
The Campbell University PGA Golf Management Program and the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, on Monday assumed management responsibility of the Keith Hills Country Club, officials said.
Posted — UpdatedKeith Hills will become a learning laboratory for the 185 students enrolled in the PGA Golf Management major, which prepares students for a variety of employment opportunities as PGA professionals in the golf industry. Students will gain experience in all facets of course operation, including running the golf shop, range management, golf car fleet management, food and beverage management and turfgrass management.
Kenneth Jones, director of the PGA Golf Management Program, has been named Keith Hills general manager. Long-time Keith Hills staff member Martha Shooter will assume a faculty position in the Campbell program and will serve as the head golf professional at Keith Hills.
Students in the program are required to complete 16 months of internship experience at golf facilities throughout the country and previously have been evaluated only by their supervisors at the courses.
"The faculty didn’t truly know the quality of their work on the job," Jones said in a statement. "We will now have a better understanding of student learning outcomes based on their knowledge, skills and abilities running our own facility.”
