Durham Regional to upgrade ER, women's center
Durham Regional Hospital is undergoing $7 million in renovations to its emergency department and Women's Services unit, officials said Tuesday.
Posted — UpdatedRenovations to Women’s Services, also known as The Birth Place, on the hospital’s fourth floor began this month. When finished, there will be a new patient reception area, and all patient rooms will feature new furniture and amenities.
The emergency room project, which is expected to be complete this summer, will create a new entrance with a security screening and check-in area and will use a new video surveillance system. The project also includes moving triage rooms around a single treatment hub.
In late 2012, a dedicated area for outpatient services, including radiology, imaging services and pre-operative testing, will open.
“Our goal is to improve the hospital experience for our patients and their loved ones,” Katie Galbraith, chief hospital operations and business development officer, said in a statement. “These renovations to our facility will help us do that."
