FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The owners of Cross Creek Mall said Thursday that they will invest millions of dollars on renovations to the 37-year-old Fayetteville mall this year.

CBL & Associates Properties Inc. (NYSE:CBL) plans to update the entrances and interior of the 1 million-square-foot mall, which is anchored by Belk, JCPenney, Macy’s and Sears and includes more than 150 specialty retailers and restaurants.

“We have always believed that it is important to invest in the ongoing success of our properties and are pleased to continue that commitment with our 2012 renovation program,” Stephen Lebovitz, CBL's president and chief executive, said in a statement. “These enhancements ensure that each mall remains a top shopping destination, attracting great new retail and restaurant names."

Construction will start in June, and most of the work will take place at night when the mall is closed.
