Brothers sought in deadly Benson shooting

The slaying happened early Monday at a house at 325 W. Harnett St. Officers responding to 911 calls arrived and found Richard O'Neal Longmire, 39, lying in the front yard with gunshot wounds to his head and abdomen, according to an incident report.

Relatives said Longmire often met the mother of his children at the house to exchange custody of their kids. Police were called to the house late Sunday over an altercation, and Longmire was shot hours later.

Benson police said investigators "worked nonstop" to develop suspects in the case and are asking for the public's help to locate them.

Jermale Tavaris Williams, 29, of the 100 block of Tarheel Road in Benson, is charged with first-degree murder. He is black, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds.

Terry Lamont Williams, 33, of the 500 block of East Benson Street, is charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. He is black, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 176 pounds.

Police said the men were seen leaving the crime scene in a yellow, older-model Camaro with large tires and rims. They also may be driving a older, white Ford Expedition.

Police said they do not believe the brothers had any direct relationship to Longmire.

The suspects are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information should call detectives at 919-894-2091.
