Brothers charged in drug bust appear in court

Two brothers were arrested Wednesday as investigators seized what they called a "significant" amount of marijuana from their home.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two brothers arrested in a drug bust had their first appearance in court Thursday.

Franklin Smith, 31, and Joseph Smith, 22, were charged Wednesday after police seized what they called a "significant" amount of marijuana and cash from the brothers' home on Churchill Road near Raleigh's historic Five Points neighborhood.

Their next court date is August 7.

Franklin Smith was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver prescription medication and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of sale or delivery of controlled substances. He was released on a $15,000 bond.

Joseph Smith, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia and released on a $5,000 bond.
