Bridge replacement to begin soon in Fayetteville
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is moving forward with plans to replace two aging bridges in Fayetteville.
Posted — UpdatedThe department announced Tuesday it has awarded a $15.9 million contract to HRI Bridge Co. of Blacksburg, S.C., to begin work on structures. One bridge crosses the Cape Fear River on U.S.301/Interstate 95, and the second bridge spans nearby Cross Creek.
The bridges were built in 1954 and are structurally deficient, the department said. They are still safe but require extensive maintenance and repair.
Work to replace the bridges is expected to begin Oct. 1 and should be completed by April 2015.
