FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police issued warrants for a Bragg soldier Monday in connection with the shooting death of a Fayetteville man.

Brandon Joseph Mims, 20, is wanted in the murder of Michael Ray Staggs, 22, whose body was found inside his car in a strip mall parking lot Saturday night. Mims is charged with first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Witnesses said the car was riddled with bullet holes. Staggs had been shot in the head.

Mims was last seen driving a black 1976 Harley Davidson motorcycle with Florida license tag 52APD in the Hope Mills area Sunday. He is stationed at Fort Bragg, but authorities said he has friends and family in Key West, Fla., and may be heading that way.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477 or Fayetteville police at 910-433-1830. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips leading to arrests in felony cases.

Friends plan to hold a vigil for Staggs on Tuesday night.
