A Fort Bragg soldier was killed Monday during fighting in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier was killed Monday during fighting in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Spc. Christopher A. Landis, 27, of Independence, Ky., died on Bagram Airfield after being wounded when his dismounted patrol with hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Kapisa Province, officials said.

Landis was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne).
