Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan
A Fort Bragg soldier was killed Saturday by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, the Defense Department said Monday.

Pfc. Christian R. Sannicolas, 20, of Fullerton, Calif., died in the southern Ghanzi province after his patrol vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the a forward operating base's medical center.
Sannicolas served as a rifleman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
Sannicolas joined the Army in January 2011 and deployed overseas for the first time last June.
He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. His other decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and Parachutist Badge.
Sannicolas is survived by his mother, Deanna Howard, of Fullerton, Calif.
