FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The commander of the 82nd Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team was relieved of command following an investigation into alleged misconduct, authorities said Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. John W. Nicholson Jr., commander of the 82nd Airborne, said he lost confidence in Col. Patrick Hynes' ability to command. No details about the investigation were released.

Lt. Col. Albert Paquin, commander of the 2-319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, will temporarily take command of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Nicholson said.

Before the investigation, the Army chose Col. Joseph Ryan to succeed Hynes as brigade commander, Nicholson said. Ryan is scheduled to take command in July.
