RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police have charged a 23-year-old man with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury after they say he shot his girlfriend in the neck Friday night after an argument in a car near a northeast Raleigh condominium complex.

Authorities say Anthony Villaroel shot Nancy Pedraza, 23, around 9:45 p.m. Friday in a car near a condominium complex at 4911 Hollendon Drive, near Spring Forest Road.

Pedraza was transported to WakeMed Hospital, where she was listed in "serious condition" Saturday morning.

No other details about the shooting were released.

Residents who live in the area said they weren't sure what happened. One woman said she had her door and windows open and did not hear anything that sounded like gunshots.
