FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An 11-year-old Hope Mills boy died Sunday evening after being injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident while visiting friends south of Fayetteville, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Ayed Alsaiti was riding an ATV when the child driving it lost control and crashed at 6501 Lake Barbour Road, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. A person flagged down a passing Fayetteville police officer, who performed CPR on the boy, but he died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Ayed was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.

His body will be sent to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
