PITTSBORO, N.C. — Chatham County Water Utilities officials said Thursday that a boil water alert for several neighborhoods in the north part of the county has been lifted.

The utility reported Wednesday that periods of low water pressure and water outages unexpectedly affected several communities, including Hudson Hills, Briar Chapel, , Fearrington Village, Galloway Ridge, Woods Charter School, Manns Chapel, Hamlet Grove, Prestonwood and Monterrane.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increased the potential for bacteria getting into the water system, officials said.

Tests of water samples from the system Thursday showed that the water meets state standards for safe drinking water.
