Body of missing swimmer found near Kure Beach

The body of a missing swimmer was found Tuesday night near Kure Beach. The body was identified as 21-year-old James Cameron, of Graham, who went missing Saturday evening.

KURE BEACH, N.C. — The body of a missing swimmer was found Tuesday night near Kure Beach.

According to Scott Hettinger with the Carolina Beach Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to the 800 block of S. Fort Fisher Boulevard in Kure Beach.

The body was identified as 21-year-old James Cameron, of Graham, who went missing Saturday evening. His body was transported to the NC Medical Examiner's Office in Jacksonville.

Where he was found on Tuesday night is approximately 3.5 miles from where he was last seen.

Crews responded to a call of a swimmer in distress around 7:51 p.m. Saturday on the beach strand at Harper Avenue.

After three days of searching by land, air and water, officials had decided to modify the mission into a recovery operation Tuesday afternoon.
